Hey guys
Hi, it’s been a while since we last spoke, and that’s reason enough for me to give you a little update.
Today I took the PowerMac G5 out of storage and set it up again. It’s now sitting next to my gaming PC—a Linux build—and they’re sharing a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. The cat immediately jumped on it, as you can see in the photo.

I also commented on that in this post here. :)
There isn’t much new to report in the PPC Linux community. Thanks to all the groundwork laid over the past months and years, Firefox has been running stably on PPC since version 145 and works on all common PPC/64(32) systems. That’s still the case today. I installed the latest version of ArchPOWER PPC64 today, and it worked without any problems; even Xfce4 runs great.
I’ve described in detail here how to install the latest version of ArchPOWER Linux on your PowerMac G5 using a USB flash drive. And there, I explain how to load a graphical interface.
